The concept of underearning refers to a compulsion to avoid prosperity and success – despite a strong desire to achieve both.

Underearning is about the inability to fully acknowledge and express our capabilities and competencies.

It’s not about horrendous life events in which some people suffered financial losses.

Underearning is about what happens in our minds that makes us turn our back on money and opportunities for money.

It is also about underachieving, or under-being, no matter how much money we make.

You can make multiple six figures and still be underearner.

If your business makes a good revenue but you hardly pay yourself anything, it’s a sure sign of an underearner.

As a mentor and coach for Business Leaders, I have worked with highly skilled and experienced entrepreneurs who in many terms were very successful.

Their businesses were making a lot of money, even seven figures.

Yet, they said that they hardly could pay themselves. They put everything back into the business and paid their team, kept them happy.

Underearners typically have a high tolerance for low pay – and low pay is a relative concept.

Most people are not conscious that they are underearners.

Many, however, are aware of their pattern of self-sabotage of money, wealth, love, impact, and joys of life, such as time freedom.

Underearning always involves self-denial of your needs, worth and personal power.

For some people underearning becomes a form of addiction.

For some, underearning is caused by conflicting money beliefs.

For others, it is a compulsion to keep themselves small and invisible — despite having a desire to be successful, and having skills and opportunities.

Furthermore, some use financial deprivation as a method of self-punishment or to numb their emotional pain.

Regardless of the root cause, underearning causes high levels of shame and anxiety.

Underearning never leads to a happier or more satisfying life.

Do you want money, success or freedom desperately… but don’t seem to achieve or receive it regardless of your effort, opportunity and qualifications?

Sometimes, we don’t need to do more.

Instead, we need to give up on some of the things so we can have lives that are full, prosperous, and grounded in serenity.

Even though underearning has many aspects, if you give up certain things, you’ll get what you want.

You can give up on some of them today, while it might take a bit longer to give up on others.

Sometimes just one conversation can change your life and business. This one could be it.
